Sometimes you find unassuming gems of hope in our society. "I Have a Dream" is an international foundation that provides long term educational support for children from low-income communities. Asheville is fortunate to have a project started by Ken and Ida Brown in the fall of 2006. The students, called "Dreamers", start the program in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade which includes meeting with teachers, classroom tutoring, daily after school programs, character development, team building, field trips and more. The national average for high school graduation of Dreamers is 93% and each Dreamer who graduates is assured a college education! Asheville's energetic Project Coordinator, Jen Matthews, recruits donations, gifts-in-kind, schools supplies and volunteers year-round. Give her a call to be part of this positive social initiative!
